Applying for an extension of the "O" Marriage Visa for foreigners who are supporting or are being supported by parents with Thai nationality or having residence in Thailand.

The foreigner must apply for a non-immigrant visa " O" at the Thai Embassy or Consulate abroad before he/she enters the country.

Duration of the first permit: As warranted by this visa, the applicant will receive permission to stay for 90 days. Duration of extension: The Immigration Office will grant that applicant a maximum extension of one year at a time.

Requirements for a Thai Marriage Visa:

1. Application Form T.M. 7.

2. A copy of passport or substitute document.

3. One 4*6 cm. Photo.

4. Marriage certificate.

5. 500 baht fee.

6. Birth certificate (if any). & current medical original certificate (any Thai clinic will do for 30-50 baht).

7. Evidence to identify that the supporter or the one being supported has a Thai nationality or has residence in Thailand.

8. If an alien is the supporter, he must submit financial evidence, proof of employment, work permit and tax receipts.

Before the 90 days has lapsed on the Thai Marriage Visa you would need to have the Thai Marriage Visa extended at immigration. There are certain rules to the extention of the Thai Marriage Visa and it is best to speak to an attorney as to the requirements for the extention of the Thai marriage Visa.

 

Thai Marriage Visa : 90 days Reporting

Once the Thai Marriage Visa has been extended you would still ahve to report your address to Thai Immigration every 90 days. The rules for the reporting are as follows:

thai marriage visaYou must report within a 14 day window period, 7 days before the lapse of the 90 days or 7 days after the 90 day period lapses. Failure to report, or failure to report within the specified time will result in a fine of 2,000 Baht, which rises to 4,000 Baht if you are arrested. You may however notify immigration either in person, by authorising someone (your wife) to report for you, or send the notification via registered mail.

 

Thai Marriage Visa : Re-Entry Permits

thai marriage visaOnce you have your extended Thai marriage visa you need to have a re-entry permit to leave the country without cancelling your extended Thai Marriage Visa.  This permit is obtainable at Suvarnabhumi airport in the area just before Thai passport control.  Yu have to have photos with you as there are no photo services available at the airport. You can also obtain a re-entry permit at Thai Immigration in Soi Suan Phlu, Bangkok.  If an agent is used a power of attorney is needed. The processing time varies. Remember that when you arrive back in Thailand to note the re-entry permit number on the Immigration arrival card (TM-card), and check that you are stamped in correctly else it will cancel your extended Thai Marriage Visa and you would have to start the process again.
